The Utter Uselessness of the Fool – (Proverbs 26:7-8)

Daily Proverbs

Like the legs of the lame that hang limp is a proverb in the mouth of fools. Like one who binds a stone in a sling Is he who gives honor to a fool.

Daily Bible Study
Wisdom is useless in the mouth of the fool, like the clouds which cannot provide rain, so to the fool cannot provide wisdom. Therefore a proverb in the mouth of the fool is not only pointless, but they are unable to use it in any way. Likewise, anyone who binds a stone which is meant to be flung out of a sling shows that they do not have the knowledge of how to use the sling. Therefore, they are in danger of hurting themselves as well as being useless. Likewise, the person who honors a fool shows they have no understanding of the purpose of giving honor. Moreover, because their honor was given to the fool they themselves now stand to suffer harm because they have associated themselves with a fool.

Dear believer, we must remember God's word speaks so strongly regarding the fool because they are the hardest to reach. Anyone acting the fool has closed their heart to all things except foolishness. Their rebellion as become so deeply entrenched in their hearts, they reject everything and are devoid of any discernment. And a heart closed this way is unable to respond to the Gospel until the Holy Spirit has changed their hearts. That is why more often than not, God must bring discipline into the life of the fool. God must do this to rid them of their foolish heart in order for them to understand and hear the Gospel of Christ. Salvation requires that God must first change the heart and the mind of the fool. This is needed in order for them to respond to the message of salvation through Christ alone, by faith alone.
