Like a thorn that goes into the hand of a drunkard Is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

Daily Bible Study
As short as this proverb is, it gives us a great insight into the main problem of the fool. And therefore a look into the heart of the fool from a Biblical perspective. The fool has closed their heart toward God and toward others. They have hardened their heart to the point that it has become incapable of feeling the tug of God. Their heart has become so dead it does not have the ability to perceive or comprehend anything that is not of its own flesh. Just like the drunkard who cannot feel the thorn in his hand, they cannot perceive the wisdom of God written within a proverb.

Just like the drunkard who does not know they have hurt themselves. Who continues in a drunken state, doing more injury to their own body. So to the fool does not know the proverb spoken, primarily applies to him. Therefore, he continues on in his foolishness bringing about his own destruction. There is nothing we can do to save a fool, other than try our best to keep them from hurting themselves. However, what is impossible for us is possible for God. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, God can change the heart of the fool. God can bring life back to the dead heart of a fool and make them children of God.
