Fear of the Lord Prolongs Days and Brings Gladness – (Proverbs 10:27-28)

The term fear of the Lord used here, means to have a deep down love, awe, respect and admiration for God. To hold the Lord in reverence and love. In addition, it means to follow and obey out of love, respect and concern for our relationship with God, because of the love we have for the Lord. We do so because of what Jesus did for us. We love Him, because He first loved us. And because of what Jesus did for us, we have a relationship with God. A relationship that was once broken and marred by sin, which has now been restored by the Cross of Calvary. As we live our lives, we have to do so with eternity in mind and this is really what the psalmist is speaking about here in these passages.
The wicked, those who are in rebellion toward God do not understand the eternity which awaits them. They fail to recognize the wrath of God, which waits for them because of the condemnation they have built up against themselves, because of their wickedness. Whereas the children of God, those who follow Jesus, live in fear the Lord. And as children of God, we focus on the eternity we will spend in Heaven, where we will see Jesus face to face. Today this will bring gladness to our hearts and joy to our lives. A joy and a gladness that defies the understanding and wisdom of the world. This is because without a relationship with Jesus the world cannot see clearly what lies ahead. Nor can they understand completely the terrible consequences of sin from which God has saved us from.
