Wisdom Begins With an Understanding of Who God Is! – (Proverbs 8:10-13)

We see in these passages of scripture, that wisdom is also tied to our fear of the Lord. In this passage the word translated into fear does not mean to be afraid of God. Rather, it means to have a deep down love, awe, reverence and respect for God. A love and respect for who He is and what He has done for us. And it's this understanding which is really the beginning of all wisdom. Without the proper perspective on who God is, and what His attributes are, we cannot truly grasp just how amazing and loving what Jesus did for us really is. Therefore, to understand this is the beginning of wisdom! This means we must never forget that Jesus is the living God of Heaven. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Author of creation and that through Him all things are held together. And it was this very same Jesus who Himself stepped out of eternity and took on humanity, for no other reason than to die for us on the Cross of Calvary.
Jesus did this for us, in order that through faith the grace of God could be made available to us. This was needed because mankind is unable through our own actions, thoughts or deeds, to restore our relationship with God the Father. It is humanly impossible for man through our own actions to make ourselves righteous in the eyes of God! God is the opposite of arrogance and pride. Arrogance and pride were the sins of Satan, which led to his downfall. We cannot become close to God until we first learn to have love, respect and reverence for Him. And secondly, we need to remove arrogance and pride from ourselves and come before the Lord with all humility. This cannot be done until we first trust in Jesus alone, by faith alone and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit who indwells all believers. Why, may you ask? Because there is no way sinful man can rid himself of arrogance and pride, its part of our sin nature and therefore it requires the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts to restrain it.
