We Must Change Our Hearts to Change Ourselves – (Proverbs 27:22)

Daily Bible Study
It would be hard to tell from first glance, but this verse says a lot about our hearts and how they affect our personalities and our lives. Mankind loves to think we are intellectual creatures, but that really is not the case. We are driven by the beliefs and desires of our hearts. Our hearts control what we see, what we think and what we desire. Moreover, we tend to use our intellect, not to determine true reality, but rather to justify what we emotionally desire to be true. And when we do so, those are the times we reveal just how dead, we are in our trespasses and sins. This is because we are determined to only see the world and life, in how we want it to be, in how it can apply to ourselves and how we can achieve our desires for our own benefit.
However, the lie of this world is living for ourselves only brings, heartache, worry, depression and the curse of always looking for more possessions. Whereas those who live by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit live a more fruitful and abundant life. Moreover, because of the work of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, God has made available to us so much more, than what this world has to offer us. And that is what this verse is speaking about, a fool who is dead to God can only see his foolishness. Their foolishness not only fills their hearts, but soaks into every fiber of their being. And like blood carried along in the blood stream, foolishness and rebellion permeate down into every cell in the body. So no matter how finely you crush a fool, you can never separate a fool from his foolishness and rebellion against God. Without the Holy Spirit's work of replacing dead hearts with new hearts alive to God. There is no hope for the fool who is dead in their trespasses and sins.
