We Are the Lord's Possession, His Treasure – (Proverbs 8:21-24)

Daily Proverbs

That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries. "The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth."

God, who is forever wise, brought forth wisdom. God, who possesses all knowledge brought forth knowledge. Wisdom did not have a beginning in the sense that it never existed, rather God chose at this time to single out wisdom and give it special consideration as one of God's eternal perfections. Jesus in His eternal wisdom created everything that was made and the Bible tells us that Jesus is the author of creation. The first chapter of John's Gospel tells us Jesus is the living word of God, and through Him everything was made, and in His wisdom Jesus created everything. And for those who love God, we love the wisdom of God taught to us through His word and the instruction of the Holy Spirit. God's word is His revelation to us regarding His plan of redemption for mankind.

In addition, the Bible speaks of God's interactions with mankind and His promises made to us. We were made His children through faith. Because of our faith in Christ, we are adopted into the family of God, as children of God. Because of our relationship with God through Christ, the knowledge and wisdom we gain from the instruction of God's word, brings with it a wealth of understanding, which not only leads to salvation, but also helps us to learn more about God. And our salvation brings with it the treasures of eternity spent in the presence of Jesus. In addition, because of our salvation, we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who illuminates our understanding of scripture as we read the Bible. Here in these passages we see wisdom personified, the writer of proverbs does this through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, in order to help us gain a better understanding of its value and role in our lives.
