There are several important thoughts highlighted by this passage regarding the attributes of God. This passage speaks of God's omniscience and His sovereignty. Omniscience means God not only knows the beginning from the end, but God is also full of wisdom. This also means that God knows the true motives and desires of our hearts and the thoughts behind our actions. In addition, His wisdom is perfect, therefore His judgments are perfectly just. And because of God's sovereignty and omniscience God is the final arbiter of justice. In other words, God is the final say of what is right and wrong and not mankind, nor is society. Mankind is not the final determiner of right and wrong, nor does mankind set the moral standards. Mankind's role is to follow and enforce God's standards and God's laws. Unfortunately, that has been lost in a world which the Apostle Paul tells us is influenced by, "the prince of the power of the air," who is Satan. And because we live in a fallen world at enmity with God, society itself will never be the source of true justice, mercy or grace to those who are hurting and in need. Today, many people believe if they use enough words, if they argue a good enough reason to justify their actions, they can ignore God.
In addition, many believe if they desensitize the people long enough, they can make even the wrong committed against God and others, appear to be right. However, that is not the case with God. Just because we decide something is socially acceptable, or we can justify our bad behavior, doesn't mean God no longer exists or that God will look the other way. Therefore, we must remember God in His sovereignty will not only protect His word, but He will also pass judgment on all those who are found without Christ. Moreover, God will discipline a nation who once claimed His name, if they abandon Him and seek rebellion against Him. All those who have relied not on God, but on the wisdom of men will ultimately face the judgment of God, regardless of the opinion of men. We have to remember God is long-suffering, not forgetful. God's long-suffering is solely for the purpose of allowing people to repent and come to faith in Christ. This means that those who relied not on Jesus, but on the words of their own mouth, coming from an evil heart will face God's judgment. We cannot forget, God is not a man, He is the Creator of the universe. This means no one is going to debate God. God's not going to stand us up before Him and ask our reasons, we are either innocent because of our faith in the shed blood of Jesus for our sins, or we are guilty before a holy God, there is simply no middle ground.
