Daily Bible Study
Forgiveness is one of the central concepts of Christianity. We forgive because God through Jesus has forgiven us. We are always to be doing what is in the best interest of those we meet. We are not to repay evil for evil or do what is in our best interest at the expense or harm of others. We are to place others ahead of ourselves and do what is right in the eyes of all people. Paul told us in his letter to the Romans, "Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone." And Peter in his first letter told us, "Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing."

Why do this, why put others first? Because this is what Jesus called us to do and this is the heart of Christianity. God, when we were evil toward Him, when we were at enmity with Him, He loved us with a never ending love. And while we were still enemies of God, He sent Christ Jesus to die for us and reconcile us in our sinful state back to Himself. Therefore, if God has redeemed us at such a great price and given us eternal life. Then we are to forgive others just as God has forgiven us. Who are we not to love those who are lost in a dark world when that is what God has called us to do? Moreover, who are we not to love those who have sinned against us, when in fact that's what God did for us.
