The Lips of the Wicked Are Full of Worthless Deceit – (Proverbs 26:23-25

Silver dross is the collection of impurities that floats on the top of the liquid when you melt down silver in order to purify it. It's the useless solid impurities which are scraped off and thrown away because it consist of only waste material. The image here is of this waste material covering the surface of a common clay pot (earthenware) making the pot look like something precious. However, in reality it's only false covering and the pot is really worthless and unusable. God is telling us so are the lips of the wicked! We have to remember the wicked operate by hiding their wicked behavior from the sight of men. And they will do so until they feel bold enough to display it without consequences. And often times they do so with flattering speech and false lips.
Like dross covering a clay pot making it worthless, so too are the lies and deceit of the wicked. We have to remember God's word calls us to be prayerful and watchful. We are looking not at outward appearances, but inwardly at the heart of a person. Moreover, the phrase "seven abominations" was a common idiom meant to convey the idea there too many to count. This phrase paints the picture that there are many abominations (more than seven, more than worth counting) in the heart of the wicked. Dear believer, we truly have to take this to heart! Our fallen world today would have us believe we are to be tolerant of wickedness, we are somehow to let the wicked flourish in the name of tolerance. When in fact God's word says not to tolerate it for any length of time, and to remove wickedness wherever it is found. We are to replace wickedness with the light of the Gospel. We are to tell others of the saving grace of God, which can only be found in Christ alone, through faith alone in Him.
