A continual dripping on a very rainy day And a contentious woman are alike; Whoever restrains her restrains the wind, And grasps oil with his right hand.

Daily Bible Study
In these passages God illustrates for us a character trait of an unredeemed heart. A disease which stems from our fallen nature and a heart of rebellion against God. This is someone governed by their emotions and sin nature and therefore someone who cannot control their behavior. This is truly a disease which itself cannot be stopped without the intervention of God. A heart of contention will never stop until it has destroyed everything in its path. This is because it's based on self and the need to fulfill desires from a wicked heart that is never content.

A heart which uses its own sin nature and this dark fallen world as its source from which to draw from. In a world under the influence of Satan. In a world that tells us our personal desires, wants, and feelings supersede the well being of others, this is an especially dangerous trait. A woman with a contentious spirit will never know happiness. She will never build anything lasting and instead seeks destruction by disagreement. She thrives on strife and contention with everything except her own ways, which are based on the wants and the desires of her heart. A heart which is only focused on self, which is in turn controlled by her sin nature and its desires for the things of this world. A world which is at enmity against God.
