These two passages speak of integrity and wisdom, they also speak of having a heart for God. Because it is from our love for God restored by our faith in Jesus that we learn the wisdom of God. Wisdom which is stored in the revelation of His word and given through the Holy Spirit. And it's by Christ that our relationship with God is restored and we receive a heart for God. And it's only then that the Holy Spirit can begin His work of instilling into our hearts wisdom and integrity which glorifies God. Through the study of God's word the Bible and through the process of sanctification carried out by the Holy Spirit we gain wisdom from God. This happens because God, Himself gives us a new heart. Our heart of stone which was dead in our trespasses and sins is replaced by a heart of flesh, which is alive to God.

However, when we rebel against God, when we abandon His ways, we become more and more debase in our thinking. We begin to turn inward toward self, focussing on the things of this world. Our focus, the source from which we draw our energy and inspiration becomes a fallen world at enmity with God. The world becomes about us and our own wants and desires. And when this happens sin grows in us and we lose our concern for others, because through sin, we are slowly hardening our hearts. We loose compassion and grace for others, we no longer care how we treat others, nor how we behave in front of them. As we move away from God, we lose the concept of being a light to the world and we become compelled to live in the darkness. And worse, we then become a hindrance to the spreading of the Gospel of Christ. By our actions and treatment of others, we promote the darkness of a world which is passing away, rather than sharing the light of the Gospel to the world around us.
