Adultery is Like Holding Fire, You Will Burn – (Proverbs 6:27-29)

Daily Bible Study
Here God gives us a powerful metaphor for the consequences of adultery. His word not only equates adultery with fire; but guarantees us that the natural consequences of our actions, is our own destruction. It's especially important to understand just as a fire destroys a building, bringing it from a strong and mighty structure that provides security and rest, to a useless pile of ashes. So to adultery completely destroys those who engage in it. Not only does it destroy our lives and our family's life. But it's complete with its destruction! It consumes everything in its path, leaving nothing unscathed from its presence!
As followers of Christ, it's important to understand that built into every sin, is the consequences of that sin. In other words, the punishment for sin is built into the sin itself. This is important to understand because many times people blame God, when in fact they are really suffering from the consequences built into the sin itself. And adultery is one such case. Adultery is one of those sins that so completely destroys us, that it affects everything, including our trust, our relationships, our security, our rest, our reputation, our spiritual life and our relationship with God. And more often than not, the damage is so complete that when those who engage in adultery come to their senses the damage that was done by the act of adultery itself cannot be undone. And as a result relationships are lost and lives are forever damaged.
