Daily Bible Study
Adultery is not only destructive to one's self and to those in the families affected, but it's also one of the few sins others cannot forget or forgive. Now understand we are not talking about God's forgiveness, but mankind's forgiveness. The forgiveness of those who are hurt by adultery. We know for those who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, their sins are forever removed. They are washed away by the blood of Christ. However, this passage is talking about the forgiveness of those hurt by adultery, and the human destruction this sin causes, especially to those involved. In addition, the destruction it brings to society as a whole when it becomes commonplace. Moreover, because this particular sin not only strikes at the heart of the family structure, it also strikes at the heart of our souls.
Therefore, it's one of the few sins, that when committed tears at the very fabric of our hearts and the moral structure of society. This is because it destroys families. And more often than not, this sin cannot be forgotten or forgiven by those who are hurt by it. It is for this very reason God has spent so many passages of scripture pleading and warning us to avoid this sin at all possible costs. As followers of Christ, we must remember Satan and this fallen world will use all the desires of the flesh, to get us to sin against God and hurt others. Together they will try their best to make us believe the lie, that no one will find out and society condones this behavior. But don't believe it! Always remember the goal of Satan and this fallen world is our rebellion against God, combined with our destruction. That is all they seek, that is all they strive for, and they have no other goal in mind!
