Gossip is Destruction Done in Secret from an Evil Heart – (Proverbs 30:10)

This verse is one of the most important verses no doubt for all the ages. This verse is a warning from God regarding slandering or as we call it gossiping. This is the act of deliberately speaking ill of someone in an effort to hurt them and their reputation. The Bible tells us this type of action comes from an evil heart. A heart that wants destruction for the recipient and brings it about in secret where no one can see their actions. Because their hearts are wicked, they want to hide their slander and thereby gossip in private. This is in order to lie about their actions later, because they think no one has seen or heard them gossip.

They think no one has heard them, but God has. We have to remember God is always looking at our hearts, and He knows our actions, our thoughts and our intentions! God wants a relationship with us therefore He looks at our heart. God doesn't judge our actions just by the outward appearance. God looks at the true intents and motives behind those actions. Therefore, God looks at our heart toward Him and toward others. In this passage notice that God does not speak out against the servant for cursing the person who is doing the slandering. This indicates to us that God not only hears the gossip, but He rightly judges against those who slander.
