Take away the dross from silver, And it will go to the silversmith for jewelry. Take away the wicked from before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness.

Precious metal is useless until the impurities have been removed. The better the refinement and removal process the more pure and the more precious the metal becomes. This basic truth is the metaphor used here for the godly king establishing his kingdom. Wickedness must be removed and godly justice must prevail for the throne to thrive and for the king to establish righteousness. This is because evil hates anything that is good. Moreover, evil is not content to just exist, its desire is to not only grow, but to destroy anything it can see and touch, which is good. Therefore, evil must be found and removed wherever it exists.
In addition, leaders must pay special attention to the moral fiber and character of those whom they place in the position of leadership under them. Likewise, we should be doing the same for ourselves! We should strive to remove evil from our lives and remove those things in our lives which do not honor God and hinder our ability to grow in Christ. We are to study God's word, seek out His precepts through the study of His word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We seek out godly counsel when needed and we are to seek out fellowship with believers, who are mature in their faith, strong in their walk with the Lord and strong in His word. Those who show a heart for humble service to God and love for others. A love which puts God and others ahead of themselves.
