As we grow in wisdom from reading God’s word and through submission to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We understand how our lives and the lives of those we love and those around us are torn apart by immoral behavior. Through God’s wisdom and the power of the Holy Spirit who carries out the work of sanctification in our lives, we learn to avoid situations that cause us to act immorally. And as we do so, as we remain steadfast in our faith we grow stronger in Christ and develop perseverance. We have to remember we live in a fallen world, a world which is at enmity with God! Moreover, it’s influenced by the one the Apostle Paul calls the “prince of the power of the air” who is Satan.
This means that Satan is the primary influence behind the world’s ideologies, philosophies and social movements. In addition, this also means that our sin nature is constantly tugging and pulling on us for destruction’s sake. Our sin nature is constantly trying to entice us into thinking that momentary pleasures are what we should focus on, rather than on a good and happy life, which is pleasing to God. But we have to remember sin never gets full, it never says enough. Sin only stops when it destroys those who embrace it. And once it destroys its host, it looks for another life to cling to and destroy. Therefore, we are not to lose sight of the eternity which is set before us. We are not to lose sight of Christ Jesus our Lord and the race which is set before us. We continue to strive for the goal and ultimate victory, which is the calling of our salvation in Jesus alone, through faith alone.
