Dwelling in the Lord Brings Ultimate Safety (Proverbs 1:27-33)

Daily Proverbs

When your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.” Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.

Daily Bible Study
Trusting in the things of man, the things of this world leads to destruction. Society is constantly undergoing change. Nations rise and nations fall. Natural disasters can destroy cities and man can destroy countries. And when tribulation comes there is nothing in the ways of this world on which we can trust. There is nothing mankind can create that can provide permanent security. Moreover, mankind in their rebellion against God, will often trust in the silliest of things in order to turn away from the Lord. And that’s the message at the heart of these passages. Those who do not trust in the Lord will ultimately find destruction. Moreover, a godly character is built upon a lifetime of trusting in the Lord. This means we build our relationship with Jesus stronger on a daily basis, not just when trials come our way.

Therefore, as we read these passages we must understand to continually reject God and trust in a fallen world, ultimately means destruction for us and eternal separation from God. However, through our faith in Jesus, we can trust in God through times of trouble. And through our faith in Christ alone, we can be strengthened in the Lord during those trials we know will come. We can have a relationship with God through Christ Jesus our Lord, a relationship that not only gives us strength and perseverance through trials, but a relationship that also brings the free gift of eternal life. Moreover, those who have a relationship with Jesus, through faith alone in Him, will have a supernatural peace, which comes from the Lord. A peace that is present even when the world at large is unstable and in turmoil. A joy that comes from knowing that no matter what, our eternity with Christ is secure forevermore.
