Fear of the Lord Brings Wisdom (Proverbs 2:1-5)
Daily Proverbs
My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
Daily Bible Study
God tells us wisdom in the Lord is more precious than silver and more valuable than gold. And those who follow the Lord should seek out godly wisdom diligently. When we become children of God through our faith in Christ Jesus our Lord, the blessings bestowed upon us are many. They really are too numerous to count. And one of those many blessings is wisdom. Wisdom which is gained from the study of God’s word as the Holy Spirit illuminates our understanding of scripture as we read the Bible. And through Bible study, we gain wisdom as the Holy Spirit works on changing our hearts and minds, thereby transforming us into children of God and joint-heirs with Christ.
Moreover, with our salvation God not only lifts us out of the miry pit of sin and destruction, but he does so much more! He saves us from an eternity in Hell, He saves us from eternal separation from God. With our salvation God through His Holy Spirit breathes new life into us giving us a new heart and a new mind. He prepares us and sanctifies us for the good work He has predestined for us through Christ Jesus our Lord. And as that happens and we grow in Christ, we in turn live in “fear of the Lord.” The word used here for “fear” does not mean to be afraid of God, rather it means to have a deep-down, heartfelt love, admiration, respect and reverence for God and His sovereignty in our lives.
