The Heart of the Wicked is Devoid of Understanding – (Proverbs 12:11-12)

Daily Proverbs

He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, but he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding. The wicked covet the catch of evil men, but the root of the righteous yields fruit.

Daily Bible Study
These two verses contrast well the behavior and thinking between the honest man and the wicked fool. The honest man, the righteous man is shown as living a simple, hard working life. He is satisfied with the fruits of his labor and he lives with fear of the Lord. This means the honest man loves the Lord and has a deep down reverence, awe and respect for God. Whereas the wicked man, because of his rebellion against God, does not want honest labor and will do anything to avoid the hard work of a good nature. This is because of their nature, which will always seek dishonest gain, for quick success. The wicked man will scheme and plan to get something he does not deserve and has not earned. In addition, he will follow after other evil men who do the same.

Here frivolity means to expend energy in worthless pursuits. To chase foolishness in a direct effort to avoid making an honest living, and to commit evil acts in order to take what does not belong to them. Therefore, the wicked hate honest work almost as much as they hate God. They will do what they can, in order to fool others in an effort to hide their wicked ways. Because their heart is full of hatred for what is good and honest, they will scorn God and those who follow the Lord. In addition, they covet the gain of others, as they plot their schemes to take it away. And in the end the wicked are destroyed and amount to nothing. God's word promises that He will exalt the righteous who have placed their faith in Him. As followers of Jesus, we have to understand, we live in the "Church age." A time when God is long-suffering, wanting none to perish, but for all to have the opportunity to repent of their sins and turn to the Lord. However, this time is quickly coming to a close, and our calling from God is salvation first, and secondly to reach out to those who are lost in a dark and dying world.
