Hear the Instruction of Your Parents (Proverbs 1:8-19)
Daily Proverbs
My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck. My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them! Think of the great things we’ll get! We’ll fill our houses with all the stuff we take. Come, throw in your lot with us; we’ll all share the loot.” My child, don’t go along with them! Stay far away from their paths. They rush to commit evil deeds. They hurry to commit murder. If a bird sees a trap being set, it knows to stay away. But these people set an ambush for themselves; they are trying to get themselves killed. Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life.
Daily Bible Study
Evil will always try to entice us with seemly free pleasures and gain. Evil will always paint the illusion that something good can be gotten for free with no work and no consequences; however that is never the case. Even if no one ever catches us, we pay a price in our soul. When we rebel against God, when we purposely sin and hurt others, we damage our own hearts. Every sin, as well as every action with bad intent, chips away at the fabric of our hearts, replacing flesh with stone.
The end result of which is we feel a little less, we love a little less and we care a little less for those around us. Our character is influenced by the sin in our life and how closely we walk with God! And it doesn’t stop there, sin is never full! Sin is never satisfied because once it finishes transforming our hearts into stone it then moves on to destroy the rest of our lives. That’s the side effect of sin that no one ever talks about and you know why? Because sin always wants more! More hearts and more lives to destroy.
