The Wicked Rule in Order to Destroy and Plunder – (Proverbs 29:12,15-16)

Daily Proverbs

When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory; but when the wicked arise, men hide themselves. Like a roaring lion and a charging bear is a wicked ruler over poor people. A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, but he who hates covetousness will prolong his days.

Daily Bible Study
When the righteous rule a nation, there is justice for the people, there is prosperity for the country and the nation receives glory in the sight of other nations. In addition, the poor and the weak have an advocate. However, when the wicked come into power, they seek the destruction of the nation from the inside out. The wicked hate what is good, and they reflect that in their rule and in their communication with the people. Moreover, the wicked prey on those weaker than themselves, therefore they go after the poor and the weak. And for those they fear, they will create animosity, chaos and public strife toward them whenever possible.

Wicked rulers bring injustice and poverty to the people because their hearts are set on their selfish desires for glory and fame. Like a ferocious lion, they seek innocent people to devour and oppress as they feed their ego and appetite for destruction. And because they love covetousness they seek others who love the same to help them plunder the people. In addition, when the wicked rule deception becomes common practice. They hate the truth, because it does not dwell within their hearts. Therefore, they will always speak lies which are calculated to bring the fulfillment of their desires. As followers of Christ, we are called to look at the heart of a man and his faith, not his outward appearance. We are looking at the position God and His word have in their lives, before choosing them to rule over us.
