Daily Bible Study
This verse talks about the blinding that wealth can cause. While it is true that there are people who are wealthy and faithful to God, these passages are speaking of those who are blinded by wealth. Those who more often than not, become blinded by their desires for more wealth. They develop a self-confidence because of their wealth which blinds them to the things of God. Wealth causes them to focus on the world in order to gain more for themselves. In addition, it can cause people to become consumed with protecting the wealth they do have. And in a larger context, these passages speak to anyone who places their faith in material possessions. Those who live for what they can buy next, those whose eyes are fixed on the next thing they can own. They do so not realizing that living for possessions does not bring happiness.

Instead living for ourselves and possessions only leads us away from our relationship with Christ. Moreover, we can forget that this world and the wealth it contains is quickly passing away. There is nothing wrong with being wealthy; however, we must remember wealth can easily draw us away from God. This is because wealth ties us so strongly to the world. And the accumulation of wealth can easily cause us to focus on ourselves and what we have an not on those around us. Moreover, it can deaden our ability to hear the call of God on our lives. God has called all of us to help those in need and spread the Gospel of Christ. This includes using our time, talents and resources toward God's kingdom and toward others. However, more often than not the pursuit of wealth can cause us to ignore God. It can prevent us from being truly effective for the kingdom of God. Wealth instead can cause us to focus on the world, as it draws our hearts to the accumulation of more wealth for ourselves.
