Daily Bible Study
This passage speaks of the fleshly desire of lusting after the things of this world. This is a desire we all battle, however, as followers of Christ, we rely not on ourselves, but on the Holy Spirit who indwells us. We live in a world at enmity against God. A world which tells us to have more, to be more, to want more is good and natural. However the Bible tells us the way of the world is sin and death. And while on a social or intellectual level, we all agree that greed is not good and people should take care of our environment and the next generation. The truth of the matter is we all want more for ourselves. Our sin nature is such that it always wants more, and it will never say, "enough."

In addition, our sin nature will always cause us to justify why it's ok to desire what we know is wrong. It will justify us to sin more and rebel against God more often. Individually, we all want more for ourselves. More money, more status and generally more of all the things the world tells us we should have. But, dear believer it is important for us to understand that our desire for more of the world is our sin nature. And like Hell, it's never full, it always wants more. More of the things that draw us away from God, things that will tie us to this world and never let go. Things which will marry us to a world which is perishing and passing away and blind us to the things of God and His direction in our lives. And when this happens we place ourselves on the path of destruction, because our sin nature will never be satisfied until it has destroyed us completely.
