God Has Given Every Man a Responsibility – (Proverbs 27:8)

Like the prodigal son in the parable of Jesus, so too is the man who wanders from his home. This passage is referring to more than physical distance. There is also the deeper meaning of purpose and responsibility, which is placed on all men by a Holy God. As men we have a responsibility to take care of our families, to provide for them, to protect them and to place their needs above our own personal desires. We as husbands and fathers have a calling directly by God to give our lives for the growth and peace of our families. We do so out of our love for them and our love for the Lord. That is the true calling of God for every man. And when we stray from that God given responsibility we affect the security of our families.

Moreover, we destroy the harmony of our home and the development of each individual within the family. Why? Because God has given every husband and father the responsibility to be the spiritual leader of the home, helping his family grow in their knowledge of the Bible and Jesus Christ our Lord. When men leave their homes, they also affect the security of their home and bring destruction into their own lives. This is because when we stray, we are not only off track, but off duty from our God given purpose and bring ourselves into rebellion against God.  In addition, we open ourselves up to the temptations that come from wandering. As children of God, we must remember our families are the basic building block of a Christian society. When we wander, we destroy that building block, we not only hinder the work of Christ in our lives, but we affect the lives of those around us.
