Followers of Christ Are Governed by the Spirit Not Emotions – (Proverbs 27:3-4)

Daily Proverbs

A stone is heavy and sand is weighty, But a fool's wrath is heavier than both of them. Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy?

Daily Bible Study
In these two passages God's word speaks of the wrath, which comes from human emotions. In other words the consequences of our actions caused by what comes out of the human heart. These passages in a small way, show us how our relationship with others and how we treat people is a condition of our heart. It's the result of our heart attitude toward Jesus and His word. The first example, tells us the wrath of a fool is weightier than a heavy stone or a load of sand. That is because a fool can get angry over anything contrary to his foolish behavior. The fool uses no logic or reason, and therefore does not behave rationally. Which means any small action or word can affect their emotions and cause anger or resentment. And since a fool is governed by his emotions there is no end to it.

However, there is something worse than the wrath of a fool, and that is jealousy. Because the human emotion of jealousy contains not only wrath, but a burning need for revenge. Whereas the fool may just stay angry over something small. Jealousy by its very nature seeks revenge and harm. And it's this reaction to our emotions that separate a follower of Christ from non-believers. It is this inability to control our emotions which separates those governed by the world and those indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Because of what God has done for us, we do not harbor revenge, nor wrath. Rather, we trust in God, show mercy and forgiveness to others and have compassion for those around us. We do so because we understand the lost condition of their hearts. And we remember the state we ourselves were once in, we remember our condition prior to our salvation, and the changes which God wrought in us as a result of our salvation, through our faith in Christ.
