This particular proverb gives us practical advice for everyday living. Here God's word is talking about discernment, wisdom, patience and diplomacy. This proverb is not about using cunning and deceptive means to get ill-gotten gain. Rather, this proverb speaks of using wisdom and discernment along with diplomacy to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. To do what is in the best interest of all parties involved and put the needs of others ahead of ourselves.
God in His word tells us to use patience and wisdom to plan the appropriate way of approaching and speaking with others. Here God is telling us that in doing good, we are to be practical and use wisdom and discretion when dealing with others. Dear believer this is especially true when spreading the Good News of Christ. Like the Apostle Paul we are to speak in love for the concern of others. In addition, we are never to use the scripture as a weapon to assault others. We are not to use God's word as a tool to make ourselves appear more righteous before the eyes of men, in order to boast of ourselves.
