The Lazy Man Covets What He Refuses to Earn – (Proverbs 21:25-26)

The wicked and evil desires of the lazy man kill him all day long. In other words, they covet what they do not have, but do not wish to put forth the honest effort to work and earn it. And what these passages are telling us is that the lazy man, the person who is at enmity with God, lets his heart be devoured by his covetousness and his passion to own what others have without having to work for it. Because of his laziness, his hands refuse to move because he has been overtaken by his emotions and his desires to do nothing. His heart has been given over to his emotions and his desires. And it's the desires which stem from our sin nature which give birth to our actions. Moreover, as we look at these passages we have to keep in mind from what source do we draw our influences and inspiration from? In other words, on a day to day basis what do we draw from for influence and motivation? We have to remember we have three enemies in this world. They include a fallen world which is at enmity with God, our sin nature which is also at enmity with God and the one the Apostle Paul calls the, "prince of the power of the air," who is Satan.
Satan is the major influence in the ideologies, philosophies and social movements of our world today. And for those who do not know Christ, this is the source from which they draw from. And it's from this we can develop an attitude of laziness. This is important to understand, because there are few things more destructive to a person's life than laziness. Laziness causes a person to squander the gifts God has given them because they are too lazy to work and use those gifts. Laziness causes people to lose so many blessings God has planned for them, because it causes them to ignore the talents and abilities God has blessed them with. Moreover, like all sin it destroys our souls because it feeds on itself. Once it has gotten hold and infected a person, it changes their thinking. The host becomes bitterer, more critical of others, develops more excuses on why they cannot move forward until it has destroyed the person's life, because it has robbed them of their future. However, where sin brings destruction there is hope in Christ Jesus our Lord. It's through a relationship with Jesus that God can restore what sin has taken away. With our salvation and our submission to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, God can restore the years that have been lost to laziness and following a world, which is at enmity with God.
