Always Seek Wise Godly Counsel – (Proverbs 20:18-19)

Daily Proverbs

Plans are established by counsel; by wise counsel wage war. He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.

Daily Bible Study
Here the Bible is critical on the need to think before we act, to know what God's word, the Bible, says on a subject before making life altering choices.  To seek God's guidance as well as wise, godly counsel before we move forward with critical decisions, especially if those decisions affect our lives and the lives of others. In this case the seriousness of war is used as the example of requiring wise counsel and the same holds true for us as well today. We are to be in Christ! Which means we are to be obedient to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in fellowship with other believers and in the study of God's word. Doing this allows us to have wise counsel from the Lord already planted deep in our hearts when the need arises. We are not to follow popular opinion or focus on what the world or the public at large thinks is wise. Rather, we are to follow the Lord.

We have to remember what the Apostle Paul told us, that the world is influenced by the "prince of the power of the air," who is Satan. This means public opinion and the wisdom of the world will always be at enmity with God, it will always focus on self and always condone and encourage more sin. In addition, our faith and our salvation, requires us to seek out the Lord's guidance, and build within ourselves a thorough understanding of our faith, God's word and our knowledge of Christ Jesus our Lord. Moreover, these passages speak about using wisdom in determining who we bring into close counsel with us. We should choose our friends wisely and seek counsel from those who have proven themselves godly. We are looking for godly men and women who love the Lord, love His word and who themselves seek His guidance through the Holy Spirit. Then come together before the Lord as a group in prayer and supplication, before making critical decisions.
