God Rebukes Laziness Always – (Proverbs 20:13)

It's interesting to note that in the Bible laziness is the one characteristic which is always rebuked by God. It's almost rebuked as much as wickedness. Moreover, it's the one trait that is rebuked heavily by both God and a fallen world as well. Therefore, God has a lot to say about the lazy person. This is because it's the one trait or sin, which wastes all of God's gifts! It doesn't matter how many blessings God has given someone, or how many talents they have received from the Lord. If they cannot get out of bed they cannot put any of God's gifts to good use.

God can bless people with much and if they never get up to use those gifts, what good are they, they will just go to waste. Moreover, it's the lazy person who will not bring himself to draw near to God and thereby seal their own destruction because of the slothfulness in their hearts. Therefore, God heavily rebukes the lazy person. Back in the sixth chapter of proverbs God instructs the lazy man to watch the ant and observe nature. And from that observation the lazy person can learn how to be industrious if they will not listen to God's word. Dear believer, we have to be diligent to avoid all the traits of laziness, in both our life's work and in the study of God's word. And if we do so, and we are attentive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will gain wisdom from God's word which in turn brings blessings into our lives and the lives of others.
