"The righteous has a refuge in his death." This is what Jesus is all about! He is our righteousness and because of that He alone is our help and our refuge now and when we die. Those without Jesus, those who have not been reconciled to God the Father through the blood of His only begotten Son, Christ Jesus our Lord, fear death. And they fear the eternity of torment and separation they know awaits them. They fear death because they know deep down in their heart of hearts, they have sinned. That inner place where no one sees, the part of their soul that lies hidden from the rest of the world, they understand they are far from God without hope of salvation, because of their rebellion against God. The Bible tells us that all people have fallen short of the glory of God and that there are none who have a righteous standing before God the Father, no not one person.

And prior to the work of the Holy Spirit, our heart's are dead in our trespasses and sins. Prior to coming to faith in Jesus, our need for God was hidden by the facade of independence, worldly desires, and a self-righteous spirit. Those who are lost know there is nothing in ourselves that merit's heaven. It's when the lost face this hidden truth that the fear of Hell becomes overwhelming and causes torment to their souls. And it's then the realization that we are all sinners, and that we are all desperately in need of a Savior. Therefore the lost keep this knowledge buried deep within themselves where their hearts cannot feel its affect. This is the state of the lost. And our calling is to seek them out and free them with the Good News of salvation in the name of the only begotten Son of God, Christ Jesus our Lord. So we must never forget no matter how we have lived our life, it's never too late to accept Jesus and His free gift of grace which provides for the forgiveness of our sins past, present and future. Moreover, it's only through faith in the blood of Jesus that we have reconciliation with God the Father.
