Wisdom Prepares Her Table and Calls To Us – (Proverbs 9:1-6)

Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars; She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table. She has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city, "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here" As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed. Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding."

God's wisdom calls out to us! She cries out for us to eat at her table. To dine on food that leads not only to life, but to eternal life, spent in the presence of Christ Jesus our Lord. And the house of wisdom is built securely, and not only securely; but it is perfectly suited for our service to Christ. The image painted here by God's word is not only the reliability of God's wisdom; but the fact that it can and does sustain us for life and not just a meager life; but a life filled with God's love and joy. These passages paint the wisdom we gain from the study of God's word the Bible and from the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as a special person who is seeking only our best. And this is true in many ways, the Bible is God's revelation to us, regarding His plan of redemption for all mankind. In addition, His word teaches us about God Himself, while showing us His interactions with humanity.

God's word gives practical wisdom for day to day life, as well as wisdom to live life more abundantly. But more importantly, God's word leads to eternal life, because it leads us to salvation through faith alone in Jesus alone. Through the study of God's word we learn that Jesus who is the very God of Heaven, stepped out of eternity and took on humanity in order that through His sacrifice for us, to pay for our sins, we could have salvation in His name.  And this is why God's wisdom leads to eternal life, because it leads us to the saving knowledge of Jesus. As God's elect, brought to salvation through the work of the Holy Spirit, God's wisdom gives us the knowledge to freely choose life. To freely choose Jesus. In addition, we must never forget, God's wisdom won't just help us here in this world; but forever in God's kingdom in the service of Christ. As Paul tells us in his letter to the Corinthians, "Do you not know that we will judge angels?"
