Souls Can Be Fed or Destroyed By What We Speak – (Proverbs 10:18-21)

Daily Proverbs

Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. In the multitude of words sin is not lacking; but he who restrains his lips is wise. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is worth little. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of wisdom.

Oh Lord, if we your children, those who call ourselves Christians could only learn to tame our tongue! With all of mankind, there has never been such a small part of our body that has caused so much trouble, chaos and misery as the tongue. More than any other part of our body the tongue reflects what's in our hearts. And it's the tongue that has caused so much trouble for many of us. So it's no wonder the Bible warns us to watch our speech. As we read scripture we see that many times in both the Old and New Testament, God warns us to tame our tongue. How many times have we witnessed in our own lifetime where the famous have been brought down by the words they have spoken, which revealed the true nature of their hearts?

Dear Christian, we need to truly cultivate in our hearts a love for Christ, understanding what He has done for us, and the eternal gifts we received from God's grace. Gifts we did not deserve, gifts we could never earn, all because of Jesus sacrifice for us who were at enmity with Him. And thereby truly understand the effect the tongue has on our witness of Jesus to others. More damage has been done by the body of Christ because of our tongues, than we can scarcely imagine. But it is also true that more people than we can count have been saved, because the Gospel was proclaimed to them, by those who have learned to tame their tongues. Every day as we read God's word the Bible, we stand at a crossroad. We can use the mighty tongue to save souls, or cause lost souls to wander further into the darkness of this fallen world. The choice, dear Christian lies with each of us, but remember all of us will give an account of the choice we made and how we used our tongues in the service of Christ.
