The Righteous Bring Peace to Cities – (Proverbs 11:7-11)

The Righteous Bring Peace to Cities – (Proverbs 11:7-11)

Daily Proverbs

When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, and the hope of the unjust perishes. The righteous is delivered from trouble, and it comes to the wicked instead. The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; and when the wicked perish, there is jubilation. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Daily Bible Study
These verses contrast the wicked with the righteous and the effects both have on their surrounding culture and communities. We have seen this play out time and time again, not only in numerous Bible passages; but also in our own world today. How many times have we seen cities and neighborhoods where wickedness has gone unchecked come to destruction. Time and again, we see in every place where wickedness has been left to thrive, soon the names of those neighborhoods and cities have become synonymous with violence, crime and destruction. Mankind does not have the ability within our own nature to do good, be selfless and look out for the long term best interest of others. Because of our fallen nature, our spirit's are dead in trespasses and sins and unable to respond to God and follow His will. Therefore, salvation is necessary, to change a heart which is lost to the world into a heart in love with the Lord and sensitive to the needs of others.

This is yet another reason why the salvation of souls is so important to us here and now. Because it's only through the work of God in our hearts that a person can truly become selfless and committed to helping those in need around them. Souls saved by grace, souls committed to Christ and in love with Jesus seek only good for those around them. As followers of Christ, we are to take the love of God to those who are lost, because it is only through the saving knowledge of Christ that hearts and lives are truly transformed. This is why God has given all followers of Jesus a heart for those who are lost. Through the study of God's word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we understand what it means to seek the Lord and do good for others, especially those who cannot help themselves. The Bible tells us in many ways and in many places we are our brother's keeper! And the first and foremost responsibility we have, is to share the Gospel of salvation to the lost who do not know Christ.
