The Wicked Only Seek to Trouble Their Own Souls – (Proverbs 11:17-19)

Daily Proverbs

The merciful man does good for his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh. The wicked man does deceptive work, but he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward. As righteousness leads to life, so he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.

Daily Bible Study
The wicked always seek to trouble their own souls. Unbeknownst to themselves, their activities of deception and rebellion against God, only bring trouble and discontent to their own lives. The deception of the wicked will never yield the riches or rewards they anticipated or hoped for. Yet it brings more damage to their souls than they realize. Moreover, even if the wicked prosper from their deeds, to what end is it really? Does the possession of extra stuff here and now, compensate for an eternity separated from God in pain and torment? An eternity in complete separation and isolation? An eternity forever in constant pain and torment, while remembering every moment they rejected Jesus and His free gift of salvation? Our world today is ignorant to what awaits those without Christ and that is why God has called us to preach the Gospel of His grace to those who are lost in this fallen world.

Hell is a real place and those who go there will experience more pain, more suffering and more loss, than is possible in this world. All people will receive an immortal body, however, some will be prepared for eternity with Christ. While others will be prepared for an eternity in Hell. Therefore, compare this end to the value of material possessions which are here today and gone tomorrow. We must never forget the things of this world are passing away. And because of God's faithfulness, the righteous, who are those who place their faith in Christ. Will always receive a greater reward, even though none was expected. The pursuit of righteousness which is salvation through faith in Jesus alone, truly is a matter of life and death to our souls. It affects not only our lives here and now; but also our eternal destination. We must never forget, without faith in Jesus during this life our souls will always have an empty space, a void longing to be filled. And that emptiness can only be filled by a relationship with God through Christ Jesus our Lord.
