God Wants Obedience and Humility Not Works – (Proverbs 15:8-9)

Have you ever heard someone say, "I have come to God on my own terms" or heard someone proclaim, "I have made my peace with the man upstairs?" How many of us recall the Old Testament story of Cain, who tried to come before God on his own terms. One of the delusions of our rebellion, which is brought about by our sin-nature and the influence of this fallen world, is the absolute lie that we can come to God on our own terms. There are no terms that we can impose on God! God decides the terms and not us! We are God's creation over which He has complete sovereignty and ownership. Moreover, we are dead in our trespasses and sins! This means there is nothing sinful man can do to reconcile himself with a Holy God. There are no works, which stem from our fallen nature, by which we can come to God on our own terms. And to believe that it's even possible is a lie of Satan, which leads to destruction and eternal separation from God. We cannot make our way with God! God is sovereign, God is omniscient, God is immutable and most importantly, God has already given us the only way we can reconcile ourselves with him. And that way is called grace! It's a gift of God and not by any of the works of human hands.
As the Bible confirms for us, it's by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone! God has already given us the terms of salvation, and those terms are, salvation through Christ alone by faith alone. God has already provided the way for us to have a relationship with Him. And that way is through Christ Jesus our Lord. Moreover, we must remember that the Bible tells us that at the end of the age, "all knees will bow, and all tongues confess Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." There is no other way given by God, whereby we can have remission of sins. As the Bible tells us, "there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Our choice is whether or not we will use our free will to answer God's call and give our lives to Christ? And when we do, we are forgiven. We are washed clean of all sins past, present and future, and we become righteous in the eyes of God. Not because of what we did; but because of what Jesus did for us! Dear child of God, we must never forget, Jesus is the Author of all creation. Jesus, the eternal God of Heaven, stepped out of eternity and took on humanity for one reason, and one reason alone. And that is for the remission of sins, through His blood shed for us on the Cross of Calvary. And that free gift is ours by faith alone. Why? Because only God could do what fallen humanity, could not do for ourselves, that is, reconcile us back to Himself.
