This is one of the many verses in God's word that speaks of the joys and importance of family. The key ingredient to a godly family is agape love! Agape love is an unconditional love for one another that goes beyond self and our selfish desires. This type of loves places others ahead of ourselves and binds families together. It's a love which ties a family together and overlooks the wrongs and faults of others. This verse speaks of the joys of a family bond that is passed down from generation to generation. This verse is so important to us today, because of what's happening to the family. We must understand that the family is the core building block to society and without strong families, we cannot have a strong society. This means that any society is only as healthy as the families which make it up!
Both God and Satan know how important the family unit is to society. God not only loves us dearly, God dearly loves the family. That is why through Jesus, we are adopted into the family of God as children of God and joint-heirs with Jesus in the kingdom of God. However, Satan hates God, hates what is good and especially hates the family. Satan understands if he can destroy the family unit, he can destroy any society and make it harder to spread the Gospel of Christ to a dark and dying world. Satan knows this, and that is why his attacks often center on the family. We see this today in our culture, as we tear apart and redefine the family to mean anything else but a family centered in Jesus, and strong in His word. Our saving grace is God, and He knows if we strengthen and build up the family we strengthen a nation. Therefore, His word teaches us of the importance of a loving family where the nurturing of children takes place and spouses care for one another, as they both care for older parents.
