The Wicked Pervert God’s Ways – (Proverbs 17:23)

Daily Bible Study
This verse is speaking of the type of bribe that is meant to bring prosperity and gain to the wicked who offer it. Moreover, the heart of this passage speaks about an attitude of rebellion against God and a love for the world and for the things of this world, all of which are at enmity against God. The bribe spoken of here is meant to circumvent justice, to circumvent God's will and circumvent God's blessings of performing honest work to provide for one's self and family. As children of God, we are not to follow such practices, we are not to steal, cheat, take what doesn't belong to us and covet what we have not earned. In short, we are not to take on the actions which are common to the wicked. We are not to live as the world lives, but we are to live in a way that honors God and spreads the light of Christ to a dark and dying world.
We are called to live according to God's moral law which was written on our hearts when we became children of God. Why? Because, as children of God through faith we are called to live a life which honors and glorifies God. A life which makes the Gospel of Jesus evident to those around us. Evident by actions, that display our love for the Lord and others, before we ever speak a word out of our mouths. And we do so because of the joy and love we have for Jesus as our Lord, our Savior and our King. We have to remember nothing we do is hidden from the sight of God! Every deed, whether great or small comes before the Lord. Moreover, every thought, every desire and every motivation are evident before the eyes of God. And the Lord is more concerned with the state of our hearts which includes the reasons and motivations behind our actions. And if the wicked without Christ face God's wrath and just punishment, we too must remember that God will chastise His children. God will discipline His children who follow after the ways of the wicked and live as the world lives.
