The Wisdom of Listening With Humility – (Proverbs 17:27-28)

As we read these passages we see that God has given us yet more wisdom through His word. This wisdom is directly from the heart of God because of His love for us. Here God warns us that the end of selfish desire and pride is isolation. Pride and arrogance in a soul can drive us to the point where we reject sound advice from all we meet. We can become intolerant with all who disagree with us. We become arrogant in our own foolishness and as a result, we destroy our own lives and hurt those around us who love us. And as this happens we isolate ourselves from the community and family for nothing more than selfish reasons caused by our own arrogance and pride. In addition, we begin to feel ourselves better than others, which in turn increases our isolation as our pride deepens.
When we do this we feed directly from the hand of Satan. Satan would love us to isolate ourselves and hide ourselves away from any possibility of hearing the message of salvation by faith alone, in Jesus alone, because of His blood shed for us on the Cross of Calvary. Satan loves this because he knows if he can accomplish his goal, it will help to secure an eternity in Hell, for those who allow his influence in their lives. We have to remember Satan knows and understands the final destination for himself and those angels who followed him in his rebellion against God. As the Bible tells us, "even the demons know and believe this, and they tremble in terror." Therefore, their only goal is to get as many of us to follow them as they can! By causing us to rebel against God and reject salvation in Christ alone, they increase the number of those created in the image of God, who will join them in Hell for all eternity.
