Fools Delight in Expressing Foolishness – (Proverbs 18:2)

Daily Bible Study
God's word in this passage is painting the picture of the fool who loves to entertain people with their own ignorance. One who only pauses long enough to plan what foolish thing they will say next for attention. It also gives us a good lesson for our day to day lives. That lesson is that understanding first comes from listening, not from talking. Moreover, true wisdom comes only from God and the study of His word, the Bible. As children of God, we have to remember when we're speaking, we can't listen. Moreover, God calls all of us to first understand, to first show kindness and love, then to speak. We can't do that if we are not listening to the hurts and needs of others. God calls us through the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome our sin nature.
Through faith we are called to overcome our desire for attention, recognition and control and instead listen to others. God calls us to first gain wisdom through understanding and prayer. And understanding comes from the study of His word and taking observation on the damage sin has done to the lives of those around us. In addition, understanding comes from following the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and the service God has called us to as we walk with Him. Moreover, in order to accomplish this requires that we first listen to others, listen to their hurts, their needs and their questions. It's through listening that we can then begin to understand how the Lord can use us to help those in need and bring the light of the Gospel to a world lost in darkness. A world which is at enmity against God.
