Stop Striving, Rest in Jesus and Follow the Lord – (Proverbs 20:3)

God's word tells us, "happy is the man who lets the Lord direct his paths." And this verse goes hand in hand with that heart felt attitude of love found in a man who follows the Lord. However, in our world today we are taught from a young age to strive for what we want. We're taught to put ourselves first and to go for what we want, with all our energy and ability. To take what we want while we can and we'll be happy. But is that really true, does putting yourself first, disregarding the care of others, taking whatever our flesh desires, really make us happy, content and satisfied? Of course not! In reality it robs us of real joy, it prevents us from experiencing an abundant and purposeful life and it has destroyed the lives of countless millions of people, and that's the goal Satan and this fallen world seek after for all people great and small. Moreover, this type of thinking is in direct conflict with God's word, which tells us to follow the Lord's path for our lives. Therefore, we must understand that it's no coincidence that the world's logic and the path to happiness, not only destroys lives, but purposely takes us on a path away from God.
Dear follower of Christ, know this for certain, the world's logic and the path to happiness is purposely designed to be in direct opposition to God, to God's word and meant to keep us in rebellion against the Lord. It's no accident that the world's logic leads not to happiness, but to despair, to loss of hope and enmity with God. Moreover, it's designed to give us as much "self-righteousness," as needed to mask the destruction that is hidden underneath. Dear child of God, this did not happen by chance! We have to remember what Paul told us in his letter to the Ephesians, he called Satan the "prince of the power of the air" the one who "works disobedience in the sons of men." Paul also told us that this fallen world is under the influence of Satan. This means that the ideologies and social movements of this world in general, are at enmity with God. They are greatly empowered and designed for the ultimate destruction, which Satan desires for all people. Therefore, we are to walk contrary to the way the world walks. We are to seek out the Lord with all our hearts. We are to stop striving for self, help those in need, and seek the lost. As children of God through our faith in Jesus, we submit daily to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. And we do so remembering, "any fool can start a quarrel" and "any fool can seek after his own." But only a child of God can follow the Lord and put the welfare of others ahead of themselves and their desires. And in the process gain a more abundant and purposeful life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
