The Heart of the Wicked Knows Only Evil – (Proverbs 21:10)

Daily Bible Study
The heart of the wicked knows only evil and they can seldom comprehend, nor understand compassion for anyone other than themselves and their desires. Their kindness usually extends only to those who can benefit them, share in their evil desires or have something they want in return. Therefore, their neighbors and their family find no favor in their eyes. This is because their hearts, which the Bible tells us are dead in trespasses and sins, are dead to the needs of others, dead to mercy, compassion and the love of God. Moreover, the Bible tells us that their neighbors, those who live nearby a wicked person, are seen as an enemy or worse yet a target. In the eyes of the wicked, neighbors are someone they can take advantage of, or plot against. The Bible also makes it clear, the hearts of the wicked, like all those who do not know Jesus, are dead because of sin and because of rebellion against God. The Bible tells us, left to our own accord, without Jesus, we all are separated from God because, "all have sinned and all fall short of the glory of God."
The Bible goes on to say, "there is none righteous, no, not one." Therefore, because of the wickedness of their hearts, the wicked not only focus on themselves, but they hate God, the word of God and especially the people of God. This means that they will do whatever they can to hinder all three and to cause the people of God to stumble and fall. However, we must remember that we were once like them! We too were dead in our trespasses and sins and at enmity with God. And we forever remained this way until the Holy Spirit changed our hearts, bringing to us the light of God's salvation, through faith alone in Christ alone. It's the touch of the Holy Spirit who transformed our hearts, bringing to us the Gospel of Christ, through which we were transformed from being children of this world, under the control of the evil one, into children of God and joint-heirs with Christ in the kingdom of God. And it's the Holy Spirit who continues God's work in the hearts and minds of the elect, in order that we may spread the Gospel of Christ to a lost and dying world. And to participate in God's work as He calls others to salvation, bringing them out of darkness and into the light who is Christ Jesus our Lord.
