Daily Proverbs
Do not lie in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; do not plunder his resting place; for a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.
Daily Bible Study
The righteous can fall repeatedly due to the schemes of the wicked. However, we will always rise again to walk with Christ. We can do so because both in our person and in our walk we are sustained by a sovereign loving God. The term here for “seven times” is a Jewish idiom which means many times or repeatedly. The plots of the wicked though temporarily successful will not ultimately yield victory because we have a redeemer who lives. We are not alone in the world because we are children of the living God through our faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. We have a redeemer and a shepherd. Moreover, the wicked do not know Him and they rebel against Him. The wicked do not understand their actions, wicked deeds and thoughts will follow them into eternity in the absence of a relationship with Jesus. Therefore the wicked have fallen under the sovereign, eternal judgment of the Lord.
Their future of torment, having been secured by their rejection of Christ will be their final calamity. Without the salvation given freely through faith in Christ, the wicked are forever doomed. Why? Because there is no other way to restore our relationship with God the Father, except through a relationship with God the Son, Christ Jesus! The wicked will face destruction that is never ending for all of eternity. Therefore, we are not to join with the wicked under any circumstances, we are not to yoke ourselves together with the wicked. Our character is formed under the guidance and training of the Holy Spirit through which we are able to rise again in God’s strength while facing adversity. And we do so remembering that this life we now live is the smallest shortest piece of the eternity which awaits us. So through God’s strength, as we submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we shall finish well the race set before us, to the glory of God the Father.
