Overindulgence in Any Fashion is Ungodly – (Proverbs 25:16-17)
Daily Proverbs
Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, lest you be filled with it and vomit. Seldom set foot in your neighbor's house, lest he become weary of you and hate you.
Daily Bible Study
Here the proverbs once again give us practical wisdom for everyday life. These verses speak of overindulgence and imposing on the hospitality of others. Here the examples are eating too much of the wrong things and taking advantage of neighborliness. But we also understand that these refer to personal and social habits. And God's word warns us even with good things there is such a thing as too much. In addition, there is such a thing as becoming too overbearing. At the heart of this passage is the concept of putting others ahead of ourselves, and doing what is right in God's eyes, rather, than following the desires of our flesh or looking out for our own best interest.
Therefore, God's word warns us that if we indulge too much on things which affect us personally we can damage our health. And if we indulge too much on the social things we can damage our reputation, our friendships or become too overbearing. If we consistently fail to put others ahead of ourselves, we can lose our friends and family. This means as followers of Christ, we are called to use discernment, wisdom and God's guidance in our day to day lives. We are called to study the word of God for wisdom. And we are to follow the Holy Spirit's guidance as we learn to live a more fruitful and abundant life through Christ. And finally we always remember there are no matters too small in our lives for God's advice.
