Admiring Self is to Admire Death – (Proverbs 25:27-28)

Daily Proverbs

It is not good to eat much honey; So to seek one's own glory is not glory. Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls.

Daily Bible Study
These verses together represent a person who enjoys the sweetness of their own glory at any cost. A person who has no internal compass as it were to help them understand right from wrong. Therefore, such a person is vulnerable to the incursion of evil into their thoughts, into their actions and into their day to day life. Unfortunately, in our world today, this is the behavior society as glorified and called good. This is what the world calls the attitude of success. To be full of self-pride, seeking one's own glory and to never be told no; that's the type of person society today says we should strive to be. However, that is not only failure in God's eyes, but this behavior also opens us up to the wrath of God for all eternity. Why? Because it drives us away from Christ Jesus our Lord.

We have to understand this not only goes against God and His word, but it can also build within us a hard-heart. God hates this behavior; moreover, this type of lifestyle can make a heart so hard the Gospel of Christ may never be able to penetrate it. And it can cause a Christian to lose their reward because they cause themselves to fall away from Christ. Dear child of God, we need to remember we live in a fallen and wicked world, a world which is at enmity with God, a world the Apostle Paul tells us is greatly influenced by the, "prince of the power of the air," who is Satan. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise to us that the world praises bad behavior. And it should come as no surprise to us that this world will do what it can to impugn and marginalize the word of God. Nevertheless, we are to follow the Lord, through submission to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and through the study of His word, the Bible.
