Hunger and Trials Can Help Us Seek the Lord – (Proverbs 27:7)

Hunger and Trials Can Help Us Seek the Lord – (Proverbs 27:7)

Daily Proverbs

A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

Daily Bible Study
This verse extends beyond food and how good it may or may not taste. At first glance a person who is full does not necessarily desire or appreciate how sweet the honeycomb taste. However to a person who is starving even a bitter morsel will taste good. But there is also a deeper meaning, which applies to life and our love of the Lord as well. A person who has wealth and too much luxury, a person who has too much materially may no longer appreciate how fortunate they really are. As a result nice things become common to them and they take for granted the blessings of God. They become enamored with worldly possessions and may no longer realize the wrath of Hell which awaits them.

Whereas a hard-working person struggling to get by and feed their families, understands and appreciates every small gift. They understand and appreciate the meaning of every blessing no matter how small. And it is also the same with our salvation. Those who understand they are perishing. Those who comprehend the true damage and cost of sin understand what a great gift we have been given in Jesus. Whereas those who are still dead in their trespasses and sins cannot see past the material satisfactions the world offers. Those who live in a life where sin still abounds, the things of the world have become important to them. They do not understand their precarious situation and the eternal consequences at stake for their souls. Without the touch of God on their hearts, they cannot understand their need for salvation, nor the sweetness of the Gospel.
