A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit; Let no one help him. Whoever walks blamelessly will be saved, But he who is perverse in his ways will suddenly fall.

God created each and every one of us in His image. The Bible tells us that God, "knitted us together in our mother's womb." And because each and every one of us have been created in the image of God, He has endowed every person with a conscience. An internal moral compass to help us understand the difference between right and wrong. Our conscience helps us to battle the sin-nature that resides in each and every one of us. Our conscience is that small voice inside of us, that speaks to us when we violate God's moral laws. And it's this compass, the conscience, which the wickedness of the world and Satan try to destroy. If this dark world can affect the moral compass of any person, then it can create a situation where it becomes harder for that person to respond to the things of God. And therefore it becomes easier for that person to sin against God.

And that is what these passages are speaking about! They speak about how our conscience, affects our hearts. When we fall into sin, it affects our conscience. And in the example given above if a person kills another person, they will be inwardly tormented because of their sin. They will see a pursuer around every corner. Never escaping the feeling of being chased they are always on the watch, always in expectation of being captured. They will take to ceaseless flight, seeking to escape, they will forever be on the run. The Bible says such a person should not receive help to escape God's pursuit. This is because we do not know if this pursuit will lead to their salvation. We need to make sure we do not hinder the work of God in the lives of others. However, those who follow the Lord with integrity, they shall receive help when they stumble. Those who place their faith in Christ Jesus our Lord, shall receive salvation, and a restoration of their God-given moral compass. This is because with salvation we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who know guides and directs our lives.
