Daily Bible Study
The spirit of a person who is obstinate and disobedient toward God, despite attempts to correct them, is referred to in the Bible as being hard-hearted. This situation is impossible for men to change and often times only God can change such a heart through the power of the Holy Spirit. Such a person is dead in their trespasses, sins and rebellion against God. In such cases only the touch of God can change their hard hearts. The Hebrew phrase for a person who is often corrected, but doesn't change is "a person of rebuke." If this person is obstinate against God and rejects God's attempts to reach them their judgment is often swift and final. Moreover, it's important to understand we ourselves can be like this from time to time. Depending on how closely we are maintaining our relationship with God through prayer and the study of His word.

If we fail to maintain our relationship with God, we too can cause our relationship with God to become distant. As a result God can and will bring obstacles and trials into our lives in order to get us to turn back toward Him. An example of such a man is Nabal from First Samuel chapter twenty-five. He refused to accept God's warnings and the men sent from David. Nabal hardened his heart to the point he refused all of God's initiatives. The end result for him was his heart became like stone and the Lord struck him and he died. Dear believer, we must remember when we are heading down the wrong path, when we are moving away from God. God will raise up people to warn us and God will change situations to block our movement forward down the wrong path. Our job is to recognize God's warning signs, repent, seek His guidance and change course before destruction becomes eminent and final. Therefore, it's vitally important we keep a heart wholly committed to God. That we in humility and meekness seek the Lord's guidance and direction for us on a daily basis.
