These passages offer very important and critical advice for us to consider and take to heart, especially as followers of Christ. This passage is telling us that companions of criminals. Those who associate closely with wicked people, those who understand what they do and how they do it hate their own life. Wickedness like this hurts others and it brings shame and brings destruction to everyone involved. We cannot knowingly associate ourselves with sin, nor participate in sin without damage to our hearts. We must remember sin is never full, it always wants more until it has destroyed us completely. Moreover, we cannot entertain sin and support the wicked without damage to our relationship with Christ!
By knowing what's going on and not stopping it, makes us part of the wickedness. In addition, it means we may be called to testify against those we associated with, thus placing ourselves in a difficult situation. A place we should have never strayed into in the first place. We have to understand God does not see how the world sees. God is not interested in our excuses, nor does God care about the technicalities we try to create to make ourselves appear innocent by the words we use. When we give our lives to Christ, we are a new creation of God. Jesus calls us to leave the wickedness of our previous life behind and follow Him. We are to place our faith in Christ alone and look toward His kingdom which is our future eternal home.
