This section of scripture ends where it began, with a woman who “fears the Lord.” As we have often seen throughout the book of Proverbs and the Bible when it speaks of “fear of the Lord” it is not speaking of being afraid of God. But rather the word “fear” here means to have a deep down love, awe, respect and reverence for God. So much so that she can think of nothing more than to follow God. And because of her faith she has lived a blessed life. Of course not the life she had planned, but a life more abundant and more blessed than she could have dreamed of herself.
Moreover, look at the opening words of this passage and we see the wrongness of how mankind judges people. We often look not at the heart, but at the outward appearance. And often times we assign to a person’s character attributes they really do not possess. And we do so just because they look a certain way. Whereas on the other hand, we can dismiss others because they do not fit into what society says is pretty. But we are wrong, because God always looks at the heart. God and His word place more emphasis on the heart of a person, rather than their looks. This is because it’s the heart, which governs our love, our attitudes and our actions toward others.
