Once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who then begins a work in our hearts. This change makes us sensitive to the things of God. And as we grow closer to Jesus, we grow in the awareness of God’s law which is written on our hearts. His law of love, humility and justice. Placing others ahead of ourselves. Where we in humility, seek to do what is right because of our love for the Lord. In addition, the Holy Spirit also increases our understanding of God’s word as we study the Bible. In this proverb Solomon is speaking of wisdom and specifically wisdom from God.
Though it may require chastening and discipline from the Lord because of our fallen nature, God’s wisdom brings with it immense benefits for a godly life. In these opening verses Solomon is explaining that wisdom is rooted in God first and foremost. And secondly in the sound teaching of God’s word. Moreover, as we walk with the Lord, we discover that God’s laws are designed to bring us a long and more fruitful life. They do so because of the natural and divine benefits they bring into our lives. They also help us to turn our hearts back to God and make us more sensitive to the things of God and His direction in our lives.
